About PEEC's Nature Adventure Camps

Day Camp: PEEC day camp is for children ages 3 through 15 and runs June, July and August. Six different programs, for campers of different ages, are offered every week. Each week of camp, for each age group, has a different specific theme--from nature photography to fishing--so that campers enrolled for multiple weeks will learn different things and have different experiences. Programs challenge each age group appropriately and include both educational and recreational activities. The camp day runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Resident Camp: For middle school and high school students, PEEC also offers five-night "sleepaway" camp . Like the day camp, each week has a specific outdoor adventure focus, from backpacking to biking to canoeing. Nights may be spent in PEEC cabins or at campsites along the river or the Appalachian trail, depending on the program. The overnight camps provide students with real challenges and a great sense of accomplishment.

Special Needs Camp - "Growing Green": PEEC works closely with Easter Seals of Eastern Pennsylvania to offer the "Growing Green" residential camp program for children with special needs. Five week-long camp sessions are held, and campers may join either a children's group or a young adult group for ages 15 and up. Growing Green campers experience nature first hand by maintaining PEEC organic garden and assisting in trail maintenance. We also focus on life skills that provide a sense of independence. A compassionate and qualified staff trained by Easter Seals helps campers tap into their strengths. Growing Green campers live on the same campus, and at the same time, as PEEC day camp and resident camp, providing many opportunities for joint activities.

PEEC summer camps are led by instructors and counselors with training in childhood behavior, special needs, wilderness first aid and risk management, as well as expertise in subjects relevant to PEEC's mission including ecology, botany, astronomy, boating and orienteering.
